Gippsland markets highlight rich regional produce, art, food & wine

With so many art, craft and farmers markets scattered across Gippsland here's a comprehensive list.

"Make it, bake it, sew it, grow it" is the motto behind the Trafalgar Markets. The morning markets include a diverse range of locally produced and hand crafted goods. Families can explore a wide variety of stalls that offer vegetables, bread, cheeses, meats and handcrafted knick-knacks.

Where: McGregor Park in Trafalgar

When: The first Saturday of every month, from 9:00am to 1:00pm.

Saffron stall at Koonwarra Farmers Market, stocking fresh saffron tea and oil.

Held in the rural village of Koonwarra, this community event showcases local produce. It was founded in 2000 by a not-for-profit association of the region's growers, producers and specialty food makers. Dogs welcome on a lead.

When: First Saturday of each month, 8am-1pm.

Next market: April 5.

Where: Koonwarra Memorial Park, Koonwarra.

Logan's Micro Distillery selling their spirits which are made from 100% natural ingredients on the Tambo River in East Gippsland.

“How would you want to miss the chance of obtaining a variety of fresh apples and rhubarb or pure honey or fudge or ice cream and berries?” ask the organisers.

Produce includes lamb (and lamb sausages), smoked meats, venison, Dargo walnuts, goats milk and cheeses, pasta, jams, sauces, chutneys and eggs.”

When: First Saturday of every month, 8am-12pm.

Where: Howitt Park Bowls Club, McEacharn St, East Bairnsdale.

Held on Bunurong land, this market sells retro items, collectables and vintage wares. There is always food and live music.

When: Every Sunday 10am-2pm.

Next market: April 6.

Location: The Kongwak General Store and Sheds on the main street.

“Rokeby Market is proudly the longest running market in Gippsland and we still have some of our first-ever stallholders attending. The dedication and love for our market is deep in the community!

Makers, producers and breeders from across Gippsland and Melbourne meet to showcase their abundance of plants, homemade baked treats, fresh produce, artisan stalls and food delights, jewellery, handmade clothing and beauty products amongst other goodies!

We have your garden, kids, pets, home decor and hungry tummy, covered.”

When: Second Saturday of each month from September to May.

Where: 1016 Brandy Creek Rd, Rokeby.

Fresh crepes sold by Crepe Mama at Coal Creek Farmers Market.

A community-run monthly gathering of around 30 local growers, farmers and specialty food makers from the south Gippsland region.

Selling bread, meats, eggs, seasonal fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, preserves, cakes, cheese, olive oil, honey, wine, garden plants and more.

When: 2nd Saturday of each month, 8am-12.30pm.

Next Market: April 12.

Where: Coal Creek Community Park & Museum, Silkstone Road, Korumburra.

A range of stalls including children's wear, plants, candles, hair accessories, honeys and jams, second hand goods and bric-a-brac.

Grab a bite to eat from the REH Cork Club BBQ; there are also coffees and soft drinks, and locally made Dutch pancakes, cakes and breads.

When: Second Saturday of the month - September to May. 8am-1pm.

Where: Kay Street Gardens, Kay St, Traralgon.

The busy, dog friendly stalls at the Lions Loch Market.

The Strzelecki Lions run the market, which includes food stalls, crafts, clothing, botanicals and produce. 

When: October to April, second Sunday 8am-1pm.

Next market: April 13.

Location: Loch Railway Reserve, Loch.

“With up to 50 Stalls to choose from you won’t be disappointed with what your Market has to offer, so come along and enjoy the morning.”

This craft and produce market is run by the Drouin Rotary Club.

When: Third Saturday of every month.

Next market: April 19.

Location: Civic Park, Young Street, Drouin.

Bustling stalls at the Warragul Farmers Market.

Founded by Erika McInerney and Sallie Jones in 2013, the Warragul Farmers Market is a fantastic place to meet and support local farmers. The market is run by volunteers.

When: Third Saturday of every month.

Next market: April 19.

Location: Logan Park, Warragul.

Botanical and CFA stalls at Prom Country Farmers Market.

The Prom Country Farmers Market says it “aims to bring local community members and visitors a taste of our bountiful local produce”. 

“We support our local farmers and artisan producers by ensuring they have a direct outlet in which to sell their produce.”

When: Third Saturday of each month.

Next market: April 19.

Where: Main Street, in the grounds of the FWMAC Hall, Foster.

At the Sale Producers market you will find a variety of locally grown and crafted goods that give visitors a homely atmosphere to enjoy any number of handpicked, preserved, baked or handcrafted products.

A cozy little market with a variety of stalls located at Coronet Bay Recreation Reserve. The market moves to a local warm hall over the winter. Hot coffee, cakes, slices and other foods available.

When: Every third Sunday of the month 9am-2pm

Next market: April 20.

Location: 39A Gellibrand Street, Coronet Bay.

Handmade candles by Ellie sold at Yarragon Craft markets.

Held in the tourist town of Yarragon this market showcases a large array of local produce as well as arts and craft stalls.

The market is at Waterloo Park during the drier months (subject to weather conditions) and at the Public Hall during the wetter months.

When: Fourth Saturday of each month, 9am-1pm.

Next market: April 26.

Location: Waterloo Park and the community hall on Campbell Street in winter.

Mirboo North Market hosts “growers, bakers, merchants and makers”, and is held at Baromi Park in the centre of town.

Profits from running the Mirboo North Market go to community projects in the town.

When: The last Saturday of the month.

Next market: April 26.

Bring the family, bring the dog and enjoy a day out with handmade speciality food and fresh locally grown produce.

When: Last Sunday of every month from 8am-1pm.
