Police investigating deaths on Phillip Island and in Moe

A man with “suspected self-inflicted injuries” is under police guard in hospital.

Police have labelled two unrelated deaths in Gippsland on Monday as “suspicious”.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad were called to a home in Cowes on Phillip Island at 10:20am on April 7 to investigate the discovery of a man's body.

“A yet to be formally identified man, believed to be aged in his 80s, was located deceased,” Victoria Police said. “The death is being treated as suspicious.”

Another man, believed to be in his early 50s, was found in Ventnor - about 6km from Cowes - earlier today with what police said were “suspected self-inflicted injuries”. He has been taken to hospital under police guard.

In a separate incident, emergency services were called to O’Brien Lane in Moe just before 4.30pm on April 7.

A yet to be identified man was located with critical injuries. He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

Homicide Squad detectives attended the location. 

Victoria Police said “the exact circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be established but it is being treated as suspicious at this stage”.
