With school holidays here it’s time to get out of the house and go explore the best parts of Gippsland with the family. There is so much to do this weekend, from food and wine festivals to a Grand Prix on Phillip Island to arts and craft events at Inverloch and Cowes. Checkout this list for ideas and we’ll keep you updated if anything new pops up!

This list covers the first week of the school holidays but we’ll be adding more Eastern weekend events here soon, stay tuned to check them out!

Tinamba Food and Wine Festival

This food and wine festival in Wellington Shire celebrates the best artisan producers, restaurants and vendors in the region. A family-friendly street party festival where you can experience live music, Gippsland wines, delicious local food and pull up a stool at the Tinamba Hotel.

This event offers festival bus services from across Gippsland. Leave the car at home and take a bus from the train station at Traralgon — options are available for towns around Gippsland as well.

The festival also has the option for a heli-flight over local wineries with views of picturesque Lake Glenmaggie. Get amongst it!

Autumn Feast at Flock Stock and Basil

Farmers Chris and Anna offer a genuine farm-to-table experience at their Flock Stock and Basil farm.

Celebrate the start of the season with the team at their farm in Tarwin Lower, and spend an afternoon sharing good food and many laughs.

They offer two seasonal feasts this year in April and October, so don’t miss out. The seasonal feast kicks off with an optional farm tour, where guests can learn about the farm and meet some of the animals. The tour is followed by a banquet lunch made with produce from the gardens and fields surrounding the table.

GT Festival Phillip Island

The Motorsport 2024 Shannons SpeedSeries launches at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit this weekend. Take the whole family along to experience an entire weekend of motorsport at one of the most stunning racing circuits in the country. There is free entry for kids 15 and under so it makes for a perfect day out for families and motorsport fans.

This three-day event will feature some of Australia's best motorsport series including:

  • GT World Challenge Australia Powered by AWS

  • Monochrome GT4 Australia

  • Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia

  • Ferrari Challenge Australasia

  • First Focus Radical Cup Australia.

When: April 4 - 6.

Go see a local footy or netball game

Both the football and netball seasons kick off this weekend so there will be lots of excitement, sausages and goal scoring going on across Gippsland, check out our full list of games here:

Free kids community event at Inverloch

There’s plenty of arts and crafts activities for the family at Inverloch this weekend.

Inverloch Community Hub hosts a free event for families looking to entertain their children for a day. Come along and let your kids get hands-on with nature and art – it's a fun, free way to spend the day.

Activities:

Nature Boats: 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Collage Animals: 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM

Free entry – no bookings required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

When: Friday April 11.

School Holiday Activities at Berninneit

Build nature boats with the whole family at Berninneit in Cowes.

Head over the ferry to Phillip Island with the family to enjoy this free event in Cowes where children are invited to build their own nature boats and test them out in the water.

All activities are free, and no bookings are required—just turn up and join the fun! Children must be accompanied by an adult.

When: Saturday April 12.

Great East Rail Trail Ride

Three days riding over four nights on the Great East Rail Trail.

If you’re after a more adventurous outback adventure to undertake with the family then look no further. The East Gippsland Rail Trail Ride offers a fully supported ride spanning four nights. A comprehensive package includes meals, first aid support and a back-up vehicle.

The event collaborates with local businesses like Tambo Valley Honey and various wineries, allowing riders to sample the best produce of the region.
